Vocational & Work Skills

Vocational training is a core part of the organisation's work. Learners and self-help groups produce goods that are genuinely sold, so training leads to earning rather than to exercises alone.

In association with the Trash for Cash Society, Faridabad, founded by Dr. Madhumita Puri, learners make incense sticks and holi colours from flowers collected from temples in Hoshangabad. The flowers are collected before they are put into the river, which also helps keep the Narmada clean.

A handloom machine installed in 2015 turns waste and old clothing — saris, kurtis, bedsheets — into usable articles such as bedsheets, mats, table tops and covers. The project was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Hoshangabad.

Other projects include paper bags, bamboo handicraft, rakhis, Diwali diyas, artistic candles, greeting cards and calendars, sold at stalls. Marketing and business development support has come through an association with ARUNIM since 2009.
