Old saris, kurtis, bedsheets and loongis arrive as waste. On the handloom installed in 2015 they become bedsheets, mats, table tops and covers that people actually buy.
The project was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Hoshangabad in the presence of invited guests, and was designed from the start to do two things at once: give learners a marketable skill, and offer training to other people with disabilities who want to earn from it.
It is the clearest expression of how this organisation thinks about ability. Not “look what they cannot do”, but “look what they made, and look who is buying it”.
